Yep! If I knew better I wouldn't have used an English name. So, I always thought that, IF I was going to have a child, (in which I hope won't happen, but in case...) I would not use English name. Probably try to use a Chinese name that sounds like English type. Hehe. I think I actually had some idea what characters to use. Wahaha!! I know, why do I think of it when I don't even want a child? Well, cuz I like to think too much. Hahaha!!! :P
About Wai Chai, I once heard his interview in English... (actually, my ABC friend sent it to me, he was very impressed by his English skill.) It was really not bad!!
my name is tony leung
「Hi, my name is Kapas Kaspersky...」
個靚女起碼都會答:「hi, tony, nice to meet you...」
Lawrence Block...

Tony Stark
I think the conservative English names favoured by Hongkongers stem from the fact that English names were first given by missionary teachers to their Chinese charges when the first-generation HKers enrolled their sons and daughters in missionary schools. (More on this little facet of early HK social history could be gleaned from Adeline Yen-Mah's autobiography "Falling Leaves"). At that time I don't think it had ever occurred to the missionaries to use the students' own Chinese names.
I use a combination of both my English and Chinese first names here (my staff ID, my passport, my bank cards, my utility bills, my degrees, etc.), but most people just refer to me by my English name alone. Truth be told I much prefer my English name to my Chinese name as I've never liked my Chinese name ever since my parents changed it for fengshui reasons when I was around seven.
At least we should be grateful for the fact that Hongkongers favour English names like "Mary" and "William" rather than American names like "Chastity" or "Chuck"!
